All little kids love to spin. That’s why there are merry-go-rounds and
carousels and dads with sore shoulders from spinning kids fast enough so that
they can pick up their feet and fly. Kids will spin around and fall down laughing, enjoying the dizzy
sensation. Children with SPD who have
under-active vestibular systems may spin around all the time. Scott would, and still can, spin for several
minutes and then walk a straight line across the yard or room. He is a super star at dizzy bat. His body simply does not register that it is
supposed to get dizzy. He can spin
around until he throws up and not realize what went wrong.
The word “spin” can also mean to tell a story. Or to retell the truth in a way that suits
your interests. And it is a cycling term
as in spinning class. Or it could be
used in spinning your wheels, staying in one place. Or spinning a web that will catch ideas
beyond what is obvious.
For me, Spinning Yellow, means telling the story of our lives. Starting with yellow and spinning
forward. Come see the dizzy world we
live in.
